MetaTrader White Label Setup and Support for Brokers
A practical guide for brokers running on someone else's MetaTrader server: what the provider does, what stays with you, and how FXSUPPORT handles setup and day-to-day administration for white and grey label brokerages.
MetaTrader white label support: setup tasks, daily MT5 admin, white vs grey label, MT4 availability and what to check in your provider contract before you sign.
What is a MetaTrader white label?
A MetaTrader white label is a branded brokerage set up on a MetaTrader server that is licensed to another company, usually a technology provider or an established broker. Your clients see your brand. The licence relationship with MetaQuotes belongs to the provider.
MetaQuotes names this model on its own broker page:
MetaTrader 5 supports White Label licensing, provides enhanced back-office functionality, connectivity to exchanges and liquidity providers, and comprehensive APIs for integration with your website, trading infrastructure, and post-trading systems.— MetaQuotes, MetaTrader 5 for Brokers (accessed October 2026)
The alternative is your own MT5 licence. In that case MetaQuotes expects the broker to run the infrastructure itself:
You independently deploy our software on your own hardware, as well as maintain your server infrastructure and fully control support and administration.— MetaQuotes, Buy the MetaTrader 5 Platform (accessed October 2026)
The three routes differ in who holds the licence and how much of the server you control.
| Question | Grey label | White label | Own (main) MT5 licence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who holds the MT5 server licence? | The provider | The provider | Your company, directly with MetaQuotes |
| Where do your clients sit? | In your own client groups inside the provider's server | On a branded setup issued under the provider's licence | On your own MT5 server |
| Brand | Your brand on the WebTrader, mobile apps, CRM and client portal | Your brand on the platform and terminals | Your brand everywhere |
| Control | Least: you work inside the provider's rules | More than a grey label | Most: you control the whole server |
| Who runs the server? | The provider | The provider, under its agreement with you | You or a contractor you appoint |
| Plugins and bridge | Whatever the provider allows | Usually subject to provider approval | Your choice |
The exact rights in any white or grey label depend on the provider's agreement, not on the label in the sales proposal. Read the contract before you plan your setup, as covered in the contract section below.
What is an MT5 grey label?
An MT5 grey label is a brokerage set up inside another company's licensed MetaTrader 5 server: you get your own client groups and your brand on the WebTrader, mobile apps, CRM and client portal, while the MT5 server licence stays with the provider.
A white label has more control than a grey label, and a full (main) licence has the most. In practice you manage your own groups, clients and conditions within the provider's limits, while plugins, the bridge, data feeds and builds stay with the provider.
The term is not used consistently in the market. One technology vendor puts it this way:
Grey Label is an informal supplier term, generally used for a more limited branded or introducing arrangement under another operator. It is not a reliable description of a standard MetaQuotes licence.— EBS FinTech, MT5 White Label Setup (accessed October 2026)
Because of that, ask every provider three questions in writing: whose licence the server runs on, which manager permissions you will get, and what you are allowed to change yourself. The answers matter more than the name of the product.
Can you still get a MetaTrader 4 white label?
New MetaTrader 4 white labels are hard to find, and we check MT4 availability on request only. MetaQuotes stopped selling MT4 licences, so an MT4 white label can only exist on a provider's existing MT4 server.
The MetaTrader 4 trading platform licenses are no longer available for purchase. We focus our efforts on the development of MetaTrader 5, and further conceptual updates will only be released for this multi-asset platform.— MetaQuotes, MetaTrader 4 for Brokers (accessed October 2026)
When the stop was reported in January 2018, Finance Magnates wrote that "no new servers will be issued in any capacity", while existing customers kept technical support and "the continuation of the offering of white label terminals for servers that are already in use". Match-Trade, a technology vendor, states on its product page that the "MT4 White Label is no longer available for new brokers due to licensing restrictions by MetaQuotes".
Brokers are also moving away from MT4. OANDA Japan has announced that its MT4 service ends after the close on 27 November 2026. MetaQuotes also sets minimum terminal builds: from 1 July 2025, terminals older than MT4 build 1440 or MT5 build 4755 "will no longer be able to connect to broker servers".
For a new brokerage, plan on MT5. If offered an MT4 white label, ask whose server it runs on, how long it will be maintained and what the path to MT5 is. Our MT4 support and MT4 to MT5 migration pages cover existing MT4 setups.
Who does what in a white label brokerage?
In a white label the provider runs the server and the licence, and the broker runs the business on top of it. That still leaves the broker a lot of technical administration, which is where most new white label brokers struggle.
| Area | Provider (licence holder) | Broker (you) | Where FXSUPPORT helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| MT5 server licence and MetaQuotes relationship | Holds it | Passes the provider's KYC and onboarding | Document and website checks before you apply |
| Server hardware, builds, access points | Runs them | Tracks build notices that affect clients | Watch release notes and test the effect on your groups |
| Groups, symbols, sessions, swaps, margin | Sets limits on what you can change | Configures within those limits | Initial configuration and ongoing changes |
| Manager accounts and permissions | Issues them | Decides who in your team gets what | Permission review and access hygiene |
| Bridge and liquidity | Often provides or approves it | Chooses the execution model and LP | Bridge configuration and symbol mapping |
| CRM, client portal, payments | Sometimes bundled | Owns the client journey | CRM integration, Manager/Web API links, payment gateways |
| Risk and reporting | Server-level reports | Dealing desk, exposure, toxic flow | End-of-day reports, toxic-flow lists, schedule checks |
| Client support | Usually broker-to-provider only | Answers your own clients | Second-line technical support for your team |
One clause type limits what a white label can do with its platform. The PrimeXM MT5 white label terms (version 2018/06) say service to traders must use "solely the MetaTrader Terminals… issued by the Technology Provider" and that "Modifications of the Terminals… and/or use of any other Terminals, is prohibited." Check the equivalent clause in your contract before you plan custom terminals or third-party front ends.
White label setup: the technical tasks in order
Setting up a MetaTrader white label means three things. You pass the provider's onboarding, configure your part of the server, then test everything before real clients arrive. These are the steps we follow with white and grey label brokers.
- Confirm the scope in writing. Get the licence holder, platform (MT5 or MT4), account capacity, manager permissions, allowed plugins and the bridge setup in writing.
- Prepare branding and onboarding documents. Match-Trade reported in 2022 that, for MetaQuotes white labels, "the name of your registered company will also become the name of your platform", and that the company name "must remain on the terminal". Align company name, trade name, domain and logos early.
- Design groups. Map account types to groups: currency, leverage, margin call and stop-out levels, commissions, execution mode, and hedging or netting accounting on MT5.
- Configure symbols. Set contract specifications, digits, spreads or markups, swaps, trading sessions and holiday schedules for every instrument you offer.
- Connect execution. Configure the bridge or gateway, map symbols to the liquidity provider and test fills, rejects and weekend reconnects.
- Integrate the CRM and client portal. Link account opening, KYC, deposits and withdrawals to MT5 through the Manager or Web API the provider allows.
- Set up managers and reports. Create dealer, risk, back-office and support roles with the least access each needs, and schedule end-of-day reports.
- Test end to end. Open demo and test live accounts, place every order type, run swaps over a rollover and check statements and CRM balances.
- Go live and hand over. Document every setting, agree the change process with the provider and start daily monitoring.
Timing depends on the provider's onboarding, your documents and your integrations, so we give a timeline after reviewing your scope.
Ongoing administration on a white or grey label
After launch, a white label broker still has daily, weekly and event-driven MetaTrader work. The provider keeps the server running, but your groups, symbols, schedules and integrations are your responsibility.
| Frequency | Task | What goes wrong if it is missed |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | End-of-day reports, swap charging check, open exposure review | Wrong swaps or unnoticed exposure reach client statements |
| Daily | Bridge and feed health, rejected or delayed orders | Execution complaints and price disputes |
| Weekly | Toxic-flow and abnormal trading lists | Latency arbitrage or bonus abuse runs for weeks |
| Weekly | Manager account and permission review | Former staff or contractors keep access |
| Before each holiday | Session and holiday schedule updates | Trading opens on a closed market or stays closed when it should open |
| Twice a year | DST changes for sessions and rollover times | Swaps charged at the wrong hour, session gaps |
| On provider notice | Build updates, minimum terminal builds, maintenance windows | Clients on old terminals cannot connect |
| On business change | New groups, symbols, leverage or commission changes | Inconsistent conditions across account types |
FXSUPPORT does this work as MetaTrader administration for white and grey label brokers, alongside risk operations. Server-level changes are documented, raised through your provider and checked on the server afterwards.

The provider contract decides your costs, your control and what happens to your clients if the relationship ends. Read it with your lawyer before signing. From the support side, these are the clauses we ask brokers to check.
One published example is the PrimeXM White Label (MT5) Agreement, version 2018/06. It is an older document and terms change, but it shows the clause types to look for:
- Fee structure. Fees are "the PrimeXM Monthly Fees and the MetaQuotes Monthly Fees". The first invoice adds setup fees, one month of provider fees and "two (2) months' MetaQuotes Monthly Fees", non-refundable and credited against future fees.
- Fee changes. Fees "may be subject to change" after the initial term. Technical support fees of MT5 components may rise at the technology provider's discretion, "no more than 20% per annum".
- Notice period. Either side may terminate without cause on "not less than thirty (30) days" written notice. An unremedied breach allows immediate termination after ten business days.
- Upstream licence risk. The provider may terminate immediately "in the case when the Technology Provider decides to cease and/or recall and/or terminate the license for the use of the MetaTrader Components."
- Exclusive use. Each component is "issued particularly for the Client". Use by any other company, even in the same group, is forbidden, and components may not be resold or transferred.
- Exit obligations. On termination the client must delete all copies of MetaTrader and remove references from its websites. The provider returns personal data to the client and erases it, to the extent requested or permitted by law.
- Support hours. Standard support is "available during business hours", and setup changes go to the provider by email ticket.
Turn those clause types into a checklist for any provider you consider:
- What do you pay at signing, monthly and per account, and how and when can it rise?
- How long is the initial term and what is the notice period?
- What happens to your clients and positions if the provider's own licence ends?
- In what format and how fast do you get client, trade and history data on exit?
- Which manager permissions, plugins, bridges and APIs are you allowed to use?
- What support hours and response times are written into the contract, and how are urgent issues escalated?
- Can you appoint a third party such as FXSUPPORT to work on your setup?

When should a white label broker move to its own MT5 licence?
A broker usually moves to its own MT5 licence when the white label limits control, cost or growth. Common signs are plugins the provider will not install, data you cannot reach and provider fees that keep rising.
MetaQuotes sells MT5 in three capacity tiers: Entry for 1,000 real accounts, Standard for 25,000 and Enterprise for 200,000. It does not publish prices on that page. With your own licence you take over the work the provider used to do. The infrastructure is yours, and the server can be installed "either done by you, or MetaQuotes can do the installation free of charge, as a part of the delivery set", according to MetaQuotes' brokerage guide.
Moving to your own server also opens up MT5 server capacity that a shared setup may limit. MetaQuotes' MT5 vs MT4 comparison lists unlimited account groups and symbols on MT5, against 512 groups and 1,024 symbols on MT4. MT5 also supports netting and hedging accounting, where MT4 offers hedging only.
Plan the move as a migration: licence application, server build, group and symbol rebuild, CRM re-pointing, data export and client communication. See migration for our method.
Do you need a regulatory licence for a white label?
A white label is a technology arrangement, not a regulatory permission. Whether your brokerage needs a financial licence depends on where your company is set up and where your clients are, so check this with a lawyer.
Providers usually ask for corporate documents during onboarding. Match-Trade reported in 2022 that MetaQuotes white label applicants had to show company activities related to online currency trading, financial or investment services, or brokerage. They also needed company registers, proof of physical address and a domain registered to the full company name. A corporate bank reference letter was added in July 2022. Requirements change, so confirm the current list with your provider. This section is general information, not legal advice.
